L Lawliet, is a world-renowned detective who takes on the challenge of catching the serial killer known as Kira.
In his investigation, L is highly suspicious of Light Yagami, and his goal is to prove that Light is Kira. He is also gifted with extraordinary intelligence and uses his intellectual abilities anonymously in the service of the police.
Light Yagami became Kira after finding a mysterious notebook with the power to kill people simply by knowing their names. The notebook, sent by a god of death named Ryk, was sent to the human world because he was bored.
